This landscape was inspired by the calm and quiet solitude of a timber alongside a river. This is a commonly encountered environment in northeast Iowa and I have many fond memories of seeking solitude and disappearing amidst the many tall trees on my family farm. Deer are extremely plentiful in this environment, and being wary of others, you have to be very still and quiet to view them. This scene captures one of those moments where all is right in the world, the wind is gently playing leaves as instruments, the water is a gentle, calm ripple, and the wildlife are going about their daily tasks calmly. I hope this painting evokes a similar sense of peace and calm for you. "You keep him [her] in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he [ she ] trusts in you." Isaiah 26:3
